TUNE IN TUESDAY: Dr. Butcher M.D. (Severin Blu-ray)

“I’m determined to have your brain!”
Well, slap me with a slab of rotten flesh and call me Giorgio—Dr. Butcher M.D. is back and lookin’ sicker than ever on Severin’s brain-splattered Blu-ray! This ain’t your mama’s Italian horror—it’s a blood-slick jungle journey through sleaze, scalpels, and schlock that drips pure VHS gutter gold.

Originally stitched together from Zombi Holocaust and given a glorious grindhouse facelift for American drive-ins, Dr. Butcher is the sleaziest med-school dropout to ever slice and dice through the South Seas. You want cannibals? You got ‘em. Mad doctors? Check. Questionable jungle science and latex guts? Buddy, you’re in for a feast.

THE FLICK:
Imagine Fulci’s Zombi 2 got blackout drunk with Cannibal Ferox, then woke up in a Bronx warehouse with a new title and a brain-eating hangover. That’s Dr. Butcher M.D. It’s absurd, it’s insane, and it’s EXACTLY what your 1983 gorehound self wanted to rent from the corner bodega’s horror shelf—complete with the big box, natch.

Ian McCulloch (yes, the poor man’s Brit leading man of a thousand spaghetti splatters) mugs his way through it all with a stiff upper lip, while Alexandra Delli Colli gets chased, stripped, and eventually crowned Jungle Queen in a leopard bikini. Classy!

THE DISC:
Severin—those twisted archivists of trash treasures—have truly outdone themselves. The new HD transfer is from the original negative, and holy eye-gouge, it looks gorier and grainer than your late-night cable memories. You can count the maggots, baby. The colors pop, the gore shines, and that keyboard-sludge synth score hits like a decomposing Casio through blown-out speakers.

Bonus features? You want ‘em? You got ‘em! Audio commentary, interviews, trailers, AND the option to watch the original Zombi Holocaust cut, for you purists out there (aka nerds).

VERDICT:
This ain’t high art, folks. This is meat-cleaver cinema. But if your heart beats for late-night channel 66 marathons and sticky-floored grindhouses, Dr. Butcher M.D. is your homecoming king. Severin’s Blu-ray is like finding an uncut print behind your dad’s Betamax stash—pure underground magic.

Grade: A+ for Atrocities
Required viewing with a slice of cold pizza and a warm flat Coke.

“He’s a depraved sadistic rapist... and he’s a doctor!” — Now THAT’S a tagline.

Want more fanzine freakouts every Tuesday? Stay tuned, tune out, and tune in.
